I was terribly proud of this poem while at Governor’s School. I tried to make each image as vivid as possible. I read it at Borders, and afterwards one person took me aside and said, “I was blown away” by your poem. I didn’t understand it, but it seemed so artistic.“
I’ve learned since that writing poetry that is understandable is often far more humane, and leads to more interesting possibilities. Nonetheless, I think this poem’s got a few good lines in it.
